We are beginning a new blog series today that will tell the story of several of our students, and why they have become Bikram Believers. For many of these students, you’ll be reading about life-changing experiences brought about by their Bikram practice.
Today we introduce you to Martha Schultz. Martha and her husband, Craig, have been dedicated students over the last year. They live in the Hickory area and travel 80 miles round trip to practice Bikram Yoga three to five times a week. Martha has this inspirational story to share:
- How did you hear about Bikram Yoga Lake Norman and what motivated you to take a class?
I first took Bikram Yoga in Toledo, Ohio. Unfortunately, I returned home to Hickory, North Carolina, and there where no Bikram Yoga studios with 100 miles. So I decided to purchase the Bikram Yoga CD so I could practice at home. I regularly practiced at home for 2 1/2 years until I saw a sign announcing Bikram Yoga Lake Norman. I was thrilled to see a studio opening nearby.
- What have you discovered about yourself and/or your personal journey as a result of practicing Bikram Yoga?
For me, Bikram Yoga is a daily challenge. I am retired and decided that I wanted to do something that presented a new challenge every day. I have accomplished more in my practice than I ever thought was possible and it works wonders for my arthritis.
- What advice would you have for new students (or students who have been away from the hot room for a while) ?
Don’t be afraid of the heat! Chances are you will be hooked on Bikram Yoga after just a few sessions when you realize how good you feel after class. I can’t say that I am thrilled most days to go to class because it is hard work. However, the emotional and physical sense of well being you get after class makes it all worth it. My advice to any student is never think you can’t do Bikram Yoga…..you can! Finally, don’t worry about being a new student. We all have experience our first couple of classes and understand how you feel. We are here to support you during your challenging days and celebrate all of your accomplishments yet to come!
