Yoga? Really? Why? (Part 2)

This week’s Top Three Benefits from Practicing Yoga

This is the second part of our series on Favorite Benefits from Practicing Yoga. Curious about other benefits?  (If you missed Part 1 of the series, you can read that here).

Working out on the bicycle or treadmill, lifting weights and swimming a few laps are all great physical exercises.  So, why yoga?  Simple.  Yoga is a complete discipline; the benefits of practicing yoga impact both our body and brain from the first day on the mat.

The list of benefits is long but here are three more of my favorites…
1. There are so many choices! Want a practice that invigorates you and helps you master focus and concentration? Try Bikram Yoga. More into the idea of relaxing and stretching? Go for Yin. Love a slower moving practice? Vinyasa may be for you. With such a wide variety of yoga styles, there’s something out there for everyone and plenty of opportunities to explore new types.

2. To overcome challenges. The great thing about yoga is that you don’t have to be “good” or “flexible” to start. Each practice is your own, and you’re only competing against yourself to try postures, stretch deeper or increase concentration.

3. It does the heart good. Yoga may help lower cholesterol and blood sugar, in turn lowering risk of heart disease.
